Dr. Nikhil Shastri is a Wisconsin native and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, where he earned his B.S. in Medical Microbiology and Immunology and received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency training and gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship training at Medical College of Wisconsin and his fellowship in interventional endoscopy at Henry Ford Hospital Detroit.
Dr. Shastri is a board-certified advanced gastroenterologist who specializes in diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal cancers specifically involving the colon, esophagus, and stomach. He performs colonoscopy screenings with high risk and complex polyp removal, in addition to general endoscopy/colonoscopy and advanced endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP. He is one of few providers in the region with expertise in endoscopic removal of early GI cancers to avoid surgery. His other areas of specialization include esophageal disorders and pancreatic/biliary diseases. He is exceptionally thorough with patient evaluation and excels in endoscopic solutions for complex medical conditions. Dr. Shastri's extensive training combined with years of invaluable experience makes him a top tier provider of gastroenterology care.
He is an active member and serves on multiple task forces and committees for the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus. Dr. Shastri was previously a director of endoscopic services and GI quality at a local academic medical center and has also served on Professional Practice Evaluation Committees and Credentialing Committees at his hospitals.
