Alizabeth Van Wieren, PA-C, RD

Liz Van Wieren is a physician associate (PA) who was born and raised in Orange County, California and St. Louis, Missouri. She received a B.S. in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, completed her dietetic internship at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Master of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of New Haven. She then proceeded to Wake Forest School of Medicine for a Master of Medical Science in physician associate studies.


Prior to joining MDHN, Liz practiced as a physician associate in family medicine and emergency medicine in Texas and Michigan before moving to Chicago and practicing in gastroenterology at a large academic center with a focus in interventional gastroenterology and inpatient acute care.


Liz is an active member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of
Gastroenterology, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Advanced Practice Provider Association serving on the Professional Development Committee.


Liz believes that, “High quality team based care can transform our healthcare system in this country to allow for timely patient access, improved healthcare utilization, patient communication, and improved patient outcomes. When a team of medical professionals work together on behalf of our patients, nothing is impossible. My job is to serve my patients, and I want every one of my patients to feel how much we care about them.”


In Liz’s free time, she is a sports mom/taxi, enjoys time with her three kids and husband, loves to be active and outside, hiking, biking, traveling, and loves enjoying great food.
